     DAVID

After the Navy, David became an electrician and enjoyed a successful career. He had some wild shore leaves while in the service, but his problems with drinking didn't really start until his marriage began to fail.

He divorced and his mother took him in, but his drinking became worse and ruined that arrangement. His alcoholism was so bad that he had to be hospitalized for a while.

With no place to go, a hospital social worker told David about the Haven of Rest. She thought it would be a good fit as it provided a sober-living environment with a good support system.

David came to the Haven and gave it his all. He had some setbacks, but the staff believed in him and that gave David the will to fight. His father had been a Baptist minister, so he began to reconnect with his past and rededicated his life to the Lord.

David helped out in the Food Pantry and when the manager left for health reasons, David was able to step into the position. He moved into the Lighthouse program and things went well for a time, but David began to feel tired and had trouble breathing. He finally saw a doctor.

David needed quadruple heart bypass surgery. It was a scary time, but God's hand was on him. After the surgery he was better than new, but the pantry position had to be filled while he was put for surgery. What would he do now?

The staff saw that David was dedicated and good with people. Would he be interested in working as a Ministry Assistant in the men's shelter? David prayed about it and accepted the position.

David has become a tremendous asset to the ministry as he uses his life experiences to help other men draw closer to God and overcome addiction.

"The staff has become my family and I love being able to make a difference in the lives of the men we serve here." David says
